God's Rx for Effective Word
For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. I Thessalonians 2:13
How do you receive the Word? Take a moment and consider the scriptures that you have learned and rely on. How do you receive them?
I am not a person who likes to take medicine. However; there are times in my life that I have been sick and have had to have a Doctor prescribe a medication to take so that I might get well. In order for the medication to be effective in ridding me of my said illness I would need to follow the RX prescription with its specific instructions so that I experience all the benefit of its curative power.
Receiving the Word of God is much like following a RX prescription. We know that the Word is life giving, full of truth and good for us. But for it to be effective in our life we must receive it as I Thessalonians 2:13 says, not as mere words of man but as truth! Only then can the Word become effective in us who believe.
Scripture tells us in 2 Timothy 2:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Are you welcoming the Word of God as truth? Are you taking it in daily so that you might benefit from its effectiveness? If you are having trouble with holy living, and conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose and action then you might not be taking your “medicine” as prescribed. Would you expect a prescription from a Doctor to be effective if it remained unopened in the medicine cabinet and you took it only when you felt like it? Of course not! Let’s commit today to receiving God’s Word as Truth, then watch and see it become effective as it works in you who believe.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, turn my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in your way (psalm 119:37) The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver (psalm 119:72)
