Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
When our oldest son was about 4yrs old we wanted “Santa” to bring him one of those power wheel jeeps for Christmas. We purchased it, disassembled, at our local Walmart and brought it home, placed it in the garage and waited until he was asleep. I brought the box and all the parts into the den and started sorting through each piece. It looked so easy that I began to assemble the parts before thoroughly reading the instructions. A few minutes into the process I realized I was in trouble and had to completely disassemble everything I had put together because it was all wrong.
So many times, in our life we “start” something without including God in the process and we find ourselves in a mess because we really didn’t realize the extent of what we were trying to do. The decisions of our life should begin with “in the beginning God”. We should go to His Word as our instruction manual when we are confused on how to “do life”. We shouldn’t need to ask, what would Jesus do? We should know what He would do because we are so familiar with His life, with His Word, with His character that it becomes our nature to do His will. When we start with God things just work out. Romans 8:28 says “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose”.
The jeep that I put together those many Christmases ago did turn out great but it would have been so much easier, so much simpler, so much less stressful if I had started with the instructions! He has given us the instructions. Use them.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, forgive me for trying to do things on my own. Help me to see that you love me and have given me all I need to live a victorious life in Christ. In Jesus Name. Amen.
