Have you ever been made to do something you really didn’t want to do? I remember as a young child my mother making me come in from playing outside to get washed up of supper. I was really hungry and didn’t want to take the time to get washed up so I slipped into the dining room through the hallway as if I had come from the bathroom. As the family began to sit down at the table and mom set the meal before us, I was staring hungrily at the food in front of me and I heard my mom call my name…. “Kurt? Kurt, did you wash your hands? I slowly nodded my head yes but it didn’t seem to convince my mom. “Let me see your hands” she said. I slowly lifted my dirty hands up above the table and she insisted that I get up from the table, go to the bathroom and thoroughly wash my dirty hands. It wasn’t something I wanted to do because I thought I had a more pressing need. I was hungry! My mom knew that my most pressing need was to clean the possible germs from my hands before I started putting food in my mouth.
David wrote in the 23rd Psalm and said, “He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
So many times, we get in a hurry to get where we want to go or where we think we should be that we miss some necessary steps. We need to learn to yield our “walk of life” to His process for our life.
Just as my mom knew it would be best for me as a young child to “wash” before I ate, the Lord knows what is beneficial for us as His children. He makes us to lie down in times that we need rest. He leads us in places of tranquility when we need peace and refreshing. He takes us through seasons of learning so that we can mature as believers. He has our best interests at heart. He loves us!! He loves you!
Psalms 37:23 tells us “The steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way”.
Those steps include seasons of busyness as well as seasons of rest. If we are trusting Him and allowing Him to direct us then we will recognize those times of rest and refreshing. Times that we can lie down in green pastures and be lead beside still waters. Places of nourishment and refreshing all for you!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ. I pray that you would direct my path as I submit to Your will for my life. Help me to hear Your voice, recognize Your ways and walk according to Your will. In Jesus name. Amen.
