Just the other day Gina and I had three of our six grand-kids at the house. They had been with us for a few days and their parents would be arriving soon to pick them up and take them home. To occupy the last few hours of our visit Gina took the oldest one shopping while I sat with the younger two beside an artificial stream at a local outdoor area. It was a beautiful sunny day and sitting on a bench isn’t the most exciting thing for a two-year-old and a four-year-old. The stream was lined with large rocks and boulders and was about 75 yards long. We started on one side and traversed the “mountainous terrain” as we climbed the highest mountain peaks and “inched” along a treacherously narrow ledge to reach the summit. Each time we would take a slightly different route and my four year old granddaughter would lead the way with caution as she made sure her footing was solid. She would turn to her brother and tell him to “step right here so you don’t slip or fall”. He would gently step in the spot his sister had told him was ok and move to the next “mountain”. Now, before you panic, their hand was firmly griped in my hands as we made our way each time.
I began to think on our little troupe as we wandered up and down that stream for the better part of an hour. As they walked along the older one with more life experience was encouraging her younger brother. All the while each one of them was quietly connected to a stronger, more experienced individual who was carefully guiding them even when they thought they were doing it all by themselves.
David wrote in 2 Samuel 22:33-34 “God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places.”
It was a song of David’s written to the Lord. David recognized that everywhere he had been, all the difficulties he faced, all the persecutions that he went through, God was with him. God never left him and He will never leave you!!!
As you traverse all the obstacles and precarious narrow ledges that life brings, know that there are others who care about you who have been through and are here to encourage you that you can make it. Most importantly never forget that He holds your hand and when the path gets narrow, David said of the Lord, “You enlarged my path under me, so my feet did not slip” 2 Samuel 22:37.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for keeping me, for upholding me, even when I don’t realize you are holding my hand and walking with me through all life brings. In Jesus Name. Amen
